Why is going to church not enough?
I am a good person. Isn’t that enough?
I am a Christian…but I do the same things the world does. Isn’t that enough?
The answer is: No. That’s not enough.
Why is it not enough? Because following Jesus Christ isn’t just about going to church, or being good or even having the title ‘Christian’, simply because you were raised in a so-called ‘Christian’ household and say you believe in Jesus. You ask, “How can believing in Jesus not be enough”. It’s not enough because even the demons believe in Jesus but they sure aren’t spending eternity with God the Father.
No. You must be born again. But you ask “Why is being born again so important?” That’s a good question. Being born again isn’t just a title one takes because they attend or belong to a church that preaches being ‘born again’. It’s not an intellectual assent. It’s not a state of being or some spiritual nirvana. Neither is it just a name for those crazy Christians who speak in tongues and run and jump pews on Sundays!
Being ‘born again’ isn’t even man’s idea. It’s God’s idea. Jesus Himself taught this concept to Nicodemus in the Book of John. Nicodemus believed Jesus was from God but didn’t really understand anything beyond that. Jesus told him:
“I tell you the truth, no one can see the Kingdom of God UNLESS he is born again.” John 3:3
Jesus also said the following:
“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural decent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but BORN OF GOD.” John 1:12-13
It’s spiritual. It’s supernatural. It’s not of this Earth. It’s not religion. It is relationship. Relationship with God the Father.
We are born dead. We have no shot from the very beginning. Adam and Eve – the first humans – ruined it for us all by disobeying God and thus sinning. That sin separated us and we died spiritually. Eventually man also died physically. So we are dead and lost with no hope of getting back to God. This is where Jesus came into play, and did what we couldn’t. By His sacrifice, He took away our sin, conquered death and the grave, overcame the devil, redeemed us back to God and sent His Spirit to live in us. This is being born again. This is life.
Are you born again….?
