I was asked recently by a minister of the Gospel to give my testimony of how I came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. I figured I would share here on my blog because our testimonies are one of the most powerful tools we as Christians possess in seeing other people come unto salvation in Christ and it also is a very powerful tool against a very real devil. Revelation 12:11 states:
“They overcame Him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb (the perfect sacrificial lamb was Jesus Christ) and by the words of their testimony.”
I’ve put together a rather short but concise testimony, such as I would use when sharing with someone about my faith. So here goes:
My name is Michael Waldron. I received the Lord as my savior just over 20 years ago. I grew up in a traditional Christian Church and knew some things about the Bible but had never heard about repenting before the Lord and being born again by the supernatural power of God. In my late teen years I had really drifted spiritually and was looking into other world religions such as Daoism and Spiritualism because in all honesty, I had no peace in my life, was very empty inside and dealt with depression often. When I was about 19 years old, my sister gave her life to the Lord and became a born-again believer in Jesus. She radically changed and although we were close, I thought this new ‘religion’ was way over the top-too much God stuff. Well she started inviting me to some of her church services and I honestly thought they were weird. People were singing and dancing around, lifting their hands to God and it always felt like the preacher was speaking directly to me-something I didn’t like very much. Meanwhile I got caught up in a bad relationship with this girl I had met. She eventually cheated on me and it left me really empty inside. Then one of the girls at my sister’s church invited me to some Revival youth services they were holding the following week. I wasn’t too excited about the church services but I thought this girl was attractive and decided to go because she was going. But oh did God have other plans! There were 3 nights in a row of these Revival services. One of the nights, the preacher was speaking on the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. He went into descriptive detail on the nails being driven into His hands and the crown of thorns being driven into His brow. As I sat through the service, I began feeling convicted about who I was as a person. I began realizing I was a sinner. I began realizing how sinful I was and that I was separated from God. I also realized that my sin hurt God. At the end of the service, the preacher gave a call forward for everyone who wanted to repent and receive the Lord as their savior. I ran! I ran up to the front of that church as fast as possible! I wept. The Lord in His graciousness had opened my heart to believe in Him. All I had to do was choose to follow Him, repent of my sins and sinfulness and follow after Jesus.
That night God changed me radically. I instantly stopped swearing and drinking alcohol. I also suddenly wanted to read my Bible and not only that but I could now understand my Bible. I had received the gift of God’s salvation and the Holy Spirit now lived inside of me. My whole life changed from that point on. I no longer wanted to pursue the career I originally desired. I now wanted to spend all my time seeking the Lord and doing ministry to reach others for Jesus Christ.
It’s been 20 years and I have been blessed to be involved in many different ministries for the Lord over the years. I am currently part of our praise team at church, lead small group ministries and am finishing up my last year of Bible school. God is wonderful and I long to know Him more and more. I pray you would open your heart to Him today. He loves you. He loves you more than you can imagine-so much that He gave up His only Son to die in your place, for the penalty for your sin. Sin separates us from God and there is nothing you in yourself can ever do to bridge that chasm between you and God. God is holy and He cannot reside where sin resides. But Jesus came as fully God, yet fully man to live the perfect life, to fulfill God’s requirements and to die in your place. He has risen from the grave and ascended into Heaven and now lives to stand in your place before God the Father. All you have to do is recognize your sinfulness. Repent of your sin. Acknowledge Jesus is the Son of God, came as a man to take your sin and die in your place. That he conquered death, Hell and the grave, has ascended into Heaven and will come again to receive us all into Him.
Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved. (John 16:31)
